I wanted to introduce myself if you haven’t met me before on social media or on Mastodon. I was first introduced to Mastodon back in 2018. I was on Twitter now called ‘X’, I was just googling more spaces for social media like Twitter and something popped up called ‘Mastodon’, I was like hmmm, I need to check this site out.
So I checked out the site and I signed up on fosstodon.org it was one of many servers / instances on Mastodon. I gravitated towards Mastodon because of its small community and I was meeting really cool friends that we had same love of technology.
I read about ‘Activity Pub’ the protocol that works with Mastodon. Its kind of like emailing friends or family. You sign up on a desired instance or server and you post like Twitter (500 characters) at the time but now some instances let you write 10000 characters. Anyway years later I stumbled upon AllThingsTech.social and it’s where I actually started using Mastodon full time and I became good friends with the Admins who run the server. I actually knew one of them from way back in time on Google+. If you remember Google+ it was an awesome place to be if you were on the tech side of things.
So this was just an intro to how I came to find Mastodon and why I love it so much.
